Home-Based Education

Home-Based Education

In addition to our rich classroom experiences, Foothills School Division offers a variety of flexible learning options:

Foothills Digital School (Grades 1-12)

The Foothills School Division offers full time online programming from Grades 1 to 12 through the Foothills Digital School (FDS). FDS is designed for students who are interested in learning from home, and need greater flexibility in pacing, when they access their learning, and where they learn.

Foothills Digital School is available for Foothills School Division students, families residing outside of FSD boundaries, and returning grade 12s who are upgrading.

To learn more, please visit the FDS webpage.

The Hub (Grades 10-12)

The Hub is an educational online platform that is designed to assist FSD students. Please contact your local school principal for greater detail.

Home School

Foothills School Division acknowledges that a family may provide, at home or elsewhere, a home education program for their student if the program meets the requirements of the regulations and is under the supervision of a board as outlined in Section 20 of the Education Act. Parents choosing home education have the responsibility for planning, managing, providing, evaluating, and supervising their children’s courses of study. They must develop a home education program that enables the student to achieve appropriate learning outcomes.

Home education in Foothills School Division is governed by Administrative Procedure 231 - Home Education. Parents wishing to pursue a homeschooling option, supervised by Foothills School Division, are encouraged to contact the Principal of FDS school for further information.
