Minds Matter

Minds Matter is a partnership program with Recovery Alberta and Foothills School Division that helps children and youth build the skills they need to thrive. It focuses on mental wellness, connection, and belonging—both in school and in the community. Through a preventative approach, Minds Matter supports students in building social-emotional skills and accessing meaningful supports early.

What families can expect

Families may see Minds Matter at their child’s school or in community spaces. The program works alongside staff, students, and community partners to create positive learning environments where every child feels supported.

  • Social-emotional learning activities that build confidence and resilience
  • Support for students during transitions (such as moving between grades or schools)
  • Family-focused events and learning opportunities
  • Connections to community resources and supports
  • Opportunities for students to develop leadership and positive relationships

In our schools

Minds Matter works directly within select schools in Foothills School Division. Programming may include classroom activities, wellness days, leadership opportunities, and support for both students and families.

In our community

Minds Matter also connects with families and partners across the region through community-based programming. These experiences help extend learning and wellness beyond the classroom and create opportunities for families to engage together.

Bringing the community together

Minds Matter is also part of larger community events that raise awareness about youth mental health and promotes resiliency. Events like the annual Okotoks Oilers hockey game, and summer park spots help bring our community together while highlighting the importance of wellness and support for young people.

A place for all

At its core, Minds Matter reflects Foothills School Division’s commitment to creating safe, caring, welcoming, and respectful learning environments. Every learner belongs, and every family is an important part of that journey.
